When we moved to Albany in the summer of 2020, we weren’t even sure we were going to buy a house. But when we saw 166 Brevator Street come on the market, we knew it was the perfect fit for our family.
After moving in, we were thrilled to see how many of our neighbors came to introduce themselves, dropped off gifts, and invited us to cookouts and brunches. Brevator Street and adjoining Rosemont Street lovingly refer to themselves as “Brosemont” because of the tight-knit community of young families. We’re one block away from the Frank Waterson/Westland Hills Park, which features brand new play equipment, tennis courts, a community garden, and a youth baseball and softball league! Our toddler loves to walk down to the park and play whenever we have a spare hour. We are also zoned for the Montessori Magnet School, which has pre-K and is perhaps Albany’s most in-demand elementary school. While it’s a quiet neighborhood, you are also right off of Central Ave, which allows easy access to grocery stores, restaurants, shopping, and more.
We’ve spent countless summer and fall evenings enjoying the back patio, which is spacious enough for entertaining as many people as you would like. We lovingly planted flowers and bushes to make the backyard an oasis, and to listen to and watch a variety of birds. The inside of the house is spacious, and we loved having both a living room and a family room on the first floor. It allowed us to have space for children to play and adults to relax. After fixing the fireplace, we enjoyed many winter nights lounging, reading books, and watching movies as a family. The kitchen is relatively new, and features lots of storage space, plus a large pantry. It goes right into the dining room, which makes it perfect to socialize with guests over. After we installed carpet in the basement, we enjoyed exercising there and using it for overflow storage.
The second-floor features four bedrooms and an updated bathroom. We used one bedroom as a spacious two-person office while we were working remotely, which could fit two children with room to spare. We love the natural light, large bedrooms, and all the storage space, with a linen closet, a cedar closet, and ample bedroom closets. As our family grew, we appreciated all the storage space between the walkup attic, the laundry room, and the basement “bunker.”
We hope that you enjoy this house as much as we did. It is a house full of memories—births, first steps, first words, and so much more.
